Kings County Surrogate Harriet L. Thompson was suspended on Friday, according to the New York Law Journal.

An acting surrogate will be named to handle the caseload, Lucian Chalfe, the Director of Public Information for the New York State Unified Court System, told the Law Journal. It was not immediately clear from the Law Journal’s report who the acting surrogate will be or when they will begin.

“Based on serious allegations of bias and discrimination, confirmed by an investigation by our Inspector General, Surrogate Court Judge Harriet Thompson has been relieved of her case docket, effective immediately, and the matter referred to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct for further action as they deem appropriate,” Chalfen told the Law Journal. “In addition, she has been relieved of her Judicial duties, her case inventory reassigned, and barred from any non-public areas of the courthouse including her chambers.”
